October 22, 2018, 10:00 a.m. Eastern Time, Conference Call
The executive board meeting via conference call was called to order by President Juli Dorff at 10:04 A.M. EST. Present were: Juli Dorff, Bev Johns, Lynne Horoschak, Beverly Gerber, Lauren Stichter, Alice Hammel, and Michael Dunn.
The minutes of August 7, 2018 were disseminated prior to the meeting. Alice Hammel moved and Lynne Horoschak seconded the approval of the minutes as printed. Minutes were approved.
Michael Dunn gave the treasurer’s report. Michael has filed the necessary tax form. Juli is working with Greg Smith, the previous treasurer, to gain access to the Sun Trust account. Michael recommends that we move our account to a bank that is nationwide so that we don’t have signatory issues. Beverly Gerber shared the historical perspective that it had been difficult to get an account and Marilyn Friend had looked at other banks. Michael will work with Marilyn to determine what can be done.
Juli reported that we need to vote on the contract and copyright form. This has been well vetted and feedback was sought. Alice Hammel moved and Michael Dunn seconded the acceptance of the contract and copyright form. The motion passed.
Sharon Manjack has agreed to take on the responsibility of publishing the newsletter. The President’s message is completed and there will also be a book review of the Trauma book. Sharon has also taken over the maintenance of the website.
Michael Dunn discussed the One Drive and Google Docs. Both will be used. All minutes have been sent to Michael and Jane for One Drive and the Website. The minutes are currently on the website.
Alex Graham has made the suggestion that DARTS be responsible for taking over an edition of one of the journal publications. Juli will have a conference call later today with Alex Graham, together with Jane Burnette and Alida Anderson, to discuss this possibility.
Membership Report was discussed. We are looking for someone to do this. Juli discussed a program that CEC is offering called “Win Back.” In this project, membership staff go back 5 years to people who have not renewed , the Division reaches out to them, and they get something special. Discussion occurred about whether we would have anything to offer. Lauren Stichter asked if we could partner with Crayola. Alice suggested an erasable highlighter. Another discussion occurred about a Reach Out program. Lynne will follow up with the folks who attended our August meeting to ask them to join.
Lauren Stichter discussed the International Conference DSAE that is being held at Moore on October 3-5, 2019. The VSA will also be held at the end of October, 2019. VSA is doing a mini-conference in December, 2018.
Beverly Gerber brought up the recommended changes for the bylaws. The proposal is to have the Past Presidents participate in the board meetings and conference calls but they would not be voting members. The past presidents would also comprise the nominations committee. These proposed bylaws will need to go to the membership 60 days prior to the business meeting on February 1 at the convention. These changes will need to go out by November 1.
Juli has disseminated the tentative schedule for the CEC Convention in Indianapolis. The business meeting will be held on Friday from 3-5 p.m. followed by a social.
The Division for Children with Visual Impairments and Deaf/blindness is having a preconference workshop on Tuesday, January 29, 2019, on Elements of Dance and DARTS members will receive a special discount. Juli will send an email about how to register. Beverly Gerber reminded us that this Division has been very supportive of our efforts.
Juli will reach out to Art Exhibitors or a VSA in Indianapolis and an art exhibit that would be similar to what was done in Tampa could be held. The Children’s Museum in Indianapolis features work of children with disabilities.
We will have a table at the convention for our Division.
Juli reported that Jane Burnette and Alida Anderson have been working very hard on the Journal.
With no further business, the meeting adjourned at 10:52 a.m.
Respectfully Submitted,
Beverley H. Johns
Secretary
