April 15, 2020, 1:00 p.m. Eastern Time, Conference Call

The executive board meeting was called to order at 1 p.m. Eastern Standard Time by President Alice Hammel. Present were: Juli Dorff, Alice Hammel, Sharon Manjack, Sue Loesl, Katie Farrand, Michael Dunn, Susan Harvey, Bev Johns, Lauren Stichter, Laura Meehan, Alida Anderson, and Lynn Horoschak.

The minutes of February 6, 2020, were approved on a unanimous vote with Julie Dorff making the motion and Sue Loesl providing the second.

Michael Dunn, our Treasurer, provided the Financial Report. Michael has followed up with board liability insurance and he has provided quotes for us to review. The cost is $711 per year for up to $1,000,000 coverage for board directors and officers. There is a $1000 deductible. There is an additional add on for media protection and it is $1800 per year. Further discussion will occur and Alice will bring this up at the Interdivisional Caucus to determine what other small divisions are doing for this insurance.

Katie Farrand gave the Awards report. Information will go out this summer about nominations. She encouraged everyone to reach out. Juli Dorff has a nomination for the Lifetime Achievement Award.

Alida Anderson gave the Communications Report. We are now moving forward with Sage Open for our Journal. Because of Covid-19 she has not heard back.

Sharon Manjack gave the update on the website. She discussed the possibilities of providing strategies for art educators. People have been providing helpful hints for working with students during COVID-19 on Facebook so this could be highlighted on the website. Sharon was commended for her great work.

Lexi Soboleski was unable to be on the call to report on the Newsletter status.

The social media report was given by Lauren Stichter. There has been an increase in use of the Facebook page and the recent webinar done by VSA assisted in boosting our Facebook page. Laura Meehan, our Membership Chair, is now going to be assisting with the Facebook page. Lauren was commended on the work she does.

Laura Meehan gave the membership report. CEC has now provided free membership for the next two months. We got seven new members through the promotion. Laura sent them all a welcome letter. Laura suggested that we share the link to the VSA webinar.

Alice Hammel reported that CEC has a summer leadership institute and the legislative summit. Katie Farrand will represent DARTS. Discussion occurred about possible funding for both events through the DARTS budget. It has not been determined whether the Leadership Training/Legislative Summit will be held. We need to begin to put monies into the budget for such purposes in the future.

Michael Dunn reported that he has filed our 501(c) 3 report.

Sue Loesl gave a report on fundraising, specifically Tshirts. We need to decide about colors, sizes, and front and back designs.  The possibility of Tote bags was also discussed. Discussion occurred also about the saying that would be on the shirt. Sue has looked at having individuals with disabilities print the shirts. Sizes were discussed and the most popular sizes seem to be large and extra large.

Katie Farrand and Alice Hammel are discussing the idea of sponsoring webinars, possibly in conjunction with the Division of Visual Impairments and Deaf-Blindness. This is a good way to raise some dollars. Sue Loesl and Katie Farrand will work together on this.

Alice Hammel proposed having a Zoom meeting in the future. All were in agreement that we should try Zoom for our next meeting.

We now have 126 members, 5 members renewed, and 6 lapsed, according to Laura Meehan. Laura suggested we consider opening our meetings up to the general membership where we could provide resources. Laura will pursue some ideas for doing this.

Please note that Sue Loesl has a new email address: sloesl@gmail.com

With no further business, Juli Dorff moved and Michael Dunn seconded to adjourn the meeting at 2:27 p.m. The meeting adjourned.

Respectfully Submitted,

Beverley H. Johns
